It's tragic that Brittany Murphy could not live long enough to see her first Malaysian-made Hollywood film, Deadline, being released internationally early next year.

The psycho thriller is a co-production between our homegrown KRU Studios and Enso Entertainment.

The movie cast the late Hollywood actress as Alice Evans, a screenwriter who camps in an abandoned house to write her film script, but ends up having psychological breakdown after encountering a series of strange events in the house.

The late Brittany aside, the US$2.5 million (RM8.5million) movie also starred Hollywood actors Tora Birch and Marc Blucas.

"Her sudden demise is a shocking news to us," Norman, the eldest of the famous KRU siblings and group CEO of the family-owned entertainment empire tells The Daily Chilli in an exclusive.

"We have planned to bring Brittany down to KL and Singapore in the first quarter of next year to promote the film, actually.

She was also supposed to witness the launch for our new KRU studio in Cyberjaya."

32-year-old Brittany, who shot to fame through commercially and critically acclaimed movies like 8 Mile and Clueless died of cardiac arrest at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

She completed filming of Deadline in June this year.

Norman: Brittany was special to KRU. She was kind and supportive towards this project.

Besides appearing in Deadline, Brittany recently starred in a few other movies including Darin Scott's Dark House follow-up, Something Wicked, which would also be released early next year.

The first and the last time Norman met his beautiful leading lady was in Louisiana last year, where the movie was mainly shot.

"She was extremely nice and humble," he recollects.

"When I introduced myself as Norman from KRU Studios, Malaysia, she said 'Hi, I'm Brittany Murphy from Los Angeles, America'."

"She knew about KRU Studios, and that we were the producers of her film project."

Conveying his sincere condolence to Brittany's husband and family, Norman says he will include a tribute to the late actress in the end credits of the eagerly awaited movie.

"Brittany was special to KRU. She was kind and supportive towards this project."

"She didn't even demand us to pay her usual asking fee of US$4 million (RM13.7 million) per movie 'coz she knew we were just a Malaysian film studio trying to get its footing in the international film industry."

"She told us it's her 'special incentive' for passionate Malaysian movie-makers like us."
