GEORGE TOWN: A 21-year-old college student died yesterday, two days after falling from the second floor of her hostel in Jalan Khaw Sim Bee here.

Khor Sook Chee, from Parit Buntar, had apparently tried to climb into her room by stepping on the water pipe after she accidentally locked herself out of her room at about 11pm on Tuesday.

According to Sook Ping, 24, her sister, a final-year hotel management diploma student at Kolej Damansara Utama, found her room locked from the inside upon coming out of the communal bathroom.

“She borrowed a hostel mate’s clothes before trying to climb up to her room from the ground floor but was stopped by a security guard.

“She then went to the second floor and entered another hostel mate’s room to try and enter her room on the first floor.

“That was when she stepped on the water pipe, slipped and fell head first. She succumbed to her injuries at about 3pm,” she said when met at the Penang Hospital mortuary yesterday.

Sook Ping said her hostel mates immediately alerted the supervisor and she was rushed to a private hospital where they operated on her immediately.

“I am surprised that my sister had the courage to climb through the window as she was the type of girl who would come home and cry upon receiving traffic summons.

“My family has no intention of suing the college as we are aware that this was an accident,” she added.
